HospiCaseY -Project The Hospital
District of South Ostrobothnia has launched the HospiCaseY research
project for 2009-2010. Participation in the HospiTool project
(2006-2007) and the positive experiences gained from that project
brought about the idea of using a virtual environment in the
newly-launched project multiprofessionally, as a joint design forum
for end users and designers, and of examining various patient and
operating processes and the properties of spaces within a virtual
environment. The use of a virtual environment in the project is
enabled by the Cave Automated Virtual Environment (CAVE) of the ICT
unit of the Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences.
Other methods supporting user participation will also be studied for
the purpose of the development of a user-based design process.
Further development of the requirements management tool will
continue. The project will also see the creation of a systematic
feedback system for the evaluation of the success of construction
projects. Results supporting HospiCaseY project user participation
will be made available for utilisation in health care sector
renovation and construction projects, and may also be applied to
other construction projects.
As a parallel project, UKI Arkkitehdit Oy will administrate a
business project focusing on the study of business models with an
emphasis on the designer’s perspective; the objective will be to
develop a design process exploiting an interactive user-orientated
virtual model.
The project is part of the Spaces and Places 2008-2012 programme of
the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation.
In addition to the Hospital District of South Ostrobothnia and UKI
Arkkitehdit, project participants include the National Institute for
Health and Welfare (THL), VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland,
and Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences, and the companies
Kiinteistö Oy Seinäjoen Y-talo, Väinö Korpinen Ltd and Philips
Valaisimet Oy.
